Prefabricated Plant Rooms… in all shapes and sizes

Prefabricated Plant Rooms (PPRs): In all shapes and sizes

Entec’s prefabricated plant room department is getting busier all the time, and the variety of applications, destinations and shapes/sizes keeps getting more and more diverse.

An increasing number of clients and consultants are embracing the prefabricated solution - experiencing shorter lead times, reduced site works and cost savings for their projects. Entec’s prefabricated plant rooms are built in our workshop in Taranaki, fully fitted out with switchgear panels, MCC’s, control panels and all manner of auxiliary plant, and then Factory Acceptance Tested prior to leaving Entec.

To paint a picture of the variety we’ve shipped out within the last few months, here’s our highlights reel…

This room held our company record for “largest building shipped” for a few days before it was eclipsed a few days later by the following entry in this blog. This absolute thing of beauty (ok, we’re a little biased!) houses the switchgear and control panels for a new gas turbine power station being built in the Northern Territory. The logistics was a challenge, with a very over-sized load travelling to Port Taranaki, across to Brisbane and then just a short 3,000km road trip to site. This big fella measured 19.9m (L) x 4.5m (W) x 4.2m (H) and weighed in at over 40 tonnes.

Solar farm switchroom. Destination: Canterbury, South Island

This room has been installed at the site of a new grid-scale solar farm in one of the sunnier parts of the beautiful South Island, housing the HV switchgear for exporting the renewable energy produced by the solar farm. This is our current record-holder for largest room, measuring 19.5m (L) x 5.0m (W) x 3.9m (H), and also weighing around 40 tonnes. The travel to site went very smoothly, despite our Cook Strait ferry network having a few high-profile reliability incidents of late.

Gas injection plant. Destination: Lower North Island

At the small end of the scale and just as beautiful (like good parents, we love all our plant rooms equally) are a pair of 10-foot ISO mini-cube containers. These are housing the control and quality verification plant for an exciting pilot project which is part of the decarbonisation of New Zealand’s natural gas resource. Allowing rapid site installation and future portability, these are nicely decked out with solar panels to power the room’s general power and DC requirements.
